MILTON, Kan. (AP) – A south-central Kansas homeowner is facing charges in the shootings of two people suspected of breaking into his house.
The wounded suspects were taken to a Wichita hospital early Monday. The Wellington Daily News reports one was treated and taken into custody, while the other remained in intensive care. Sumner County Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Yoder says a 46-year-old man woke up in his Milton home around 3 a.m. Monday to find someone inside.
Yoder says the homeowner grabbed a rifle, chased the burglar outside and opened fire on a group of about four people. The homeowner was later arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery.
Kansas law allows the use of force against a burglary suspect inside a home or workplace. In this case, deputies said the suspects were already outside.
