Spontaneous Needs Arising: Salina Area Community Services Council Monthly Meeting

StrengthiningOurCommunityThe winter chill, dim or no sidewalk lighting, limited picnic tables for seating at a park, clean laundry. For some in our community these have a profound effect on their daily lives. Debbie Rivers, Salina Shares, takes action when she learns of these needs. Plan to attend Friday’s Salina Area Community Services Council meeting and learn how Debbie’s personal interest has grown into a vital organization, Salina Shares.

“Community Services Council has proven to be a very effective way for community agency representatives to come together, share information, and learn about new programs and existing opportunities for the clients we all work with in our shared community,” said Lara Duran, Salina Area Technical College Outreach & AO-K Coordinator.

“We hope you will consider attending an upcoming meeting to introduce yourself and take advantage of the networking opportunities for meeting others in the community,” said Lisa Newman, K-State Research and Extension. “Our next meeting is this Friday, August 21,” Newman added. Monthly meetings are open to the public.

Salina Area Community Services Council offers an informational program on the third Friday of each month from noon-1 p.m. at the Salina Senior Center, 245 N Ninth, Second Floor Board Room. Attendees may purchase a meal at the Salina Senior Center for $4 or bring their own lunches. Roundtable sharing by all who attend follows the program.
For more than 30 years the Salina Area Community Services Council has been meeting monthly with the purposes to:

•Identify the needs and resources of the community as they relate to the social, physical, and mental well-being of the citizens;
•Encourage and develop coordination and share resources among civic groups, churches, organizations, and agencies to meet identified needs;
•Promote public education on social service needs and resources in the community.
