SALINA -The unemployment rate ticked up in July after three months of remaining relatively flat, according to information from the Kansas Department of Labor.

The jobless rate in Saline County went from 4.5 percent in June to 4.7 percent in July.

McPherson County saw a jump from 3.5 to 3.9 percent in July. Ellsworth County also saw an increase from 3.5 to 3.7 percent.

Ottawa County jobless numbers remained steady at 4.5 percent and Dickinson County saw a drop from 6.1 to 5.8 percent. Geary County reported 7.6 percent in July, the  highest unemployment rate in the area.

The mining and logging category — which includes the oil and gas industry — saw a significant decrease statewide, with 6.6 percent, or 700 jobs, disappearing in July.

The state’s July seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.6 percent, up from 4.5 percent in June and up from 4.4 percent in July 2014.
