Recently, the City of Salina made changes to a three block stretch of South Sante Fe Avenue from Crawford Street to Republic Avenue. A new asphault service was laid out and new lines were painted.

The changes, which also included the reduction of traffic from four lanes to two, were made in order to accommodate the addition of bicycle exclusive lanes on both sides of the street.

An investigation by the Salina Post reveals that the new lines painted on the 700 block of South Santa Fe are off by more than a foot. The space between the curb and the first line of the bicycle lane is supposed to be a distance of 7 feet, 6 inches. The actual measured distance is currently just a bit over 6 feet, which means the lines are off by more than a foot.

The following two photos were taken of two vehicles legally parked on the section of Santa Fe in question. With the lines not painting correctly, does this mean these vehicles are not legally parked? Does this present safety and liability issues for both drivers and bicycle riders? What do you think? Should the City of Salina correct this problem?
