Youth Volunteer Opportunities At Memorial Health System in Abilene

By Lisa Charland

ABILENE-Memorial Health System is accepting applications for the Summer Youth Volunteer Program, which will start June 13 and end August 10. This program is open to area youth ages 14 to 18 who are able to commit to at least two hours per week in the summer.

The program is designed to give youth experience in applying and interviewing for a job, as well as provide experience in a professional setting. Youth should obtain and submit an application and provide references before being interviewed. All volunteers must agree to follow health system policies the same as an employee, including adhering to the dress code.

There are a number of work areas available to youth volunteers, including Memorial Hospital, Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, Learn and Grow Depot, and Village Manor. Duties available to youth volunteers include public relations support, participating in activities with elderly or children, assistance in medical records, and various general duties as needed.

In explaining the Summer Youth Volunteer Program, Michelle McClanahan, Memorial Health System Director of Volunteer Services, states, “This program is for high school students in the Dickinson County area who wish to give back to their community as well as gain volunteer hours that are so important for college applications and scholarships.”

For more information or to request an application, contact Michelle McClanahan at (785) 263-6692. Applications should be turned in by June 3.
