The Kansas Highway Patrol is reporting that the cause of death for a Hays man who was found outside his wrecked pickup Saturday was an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

42-year-old Curtis Schoenberger was hunting in Phillips County and accidentally shot himself. He then drove north on a county road. The pickup left the road and travelled through a field hitting a tree. The coroner’s office determined the cause of death.
