A crash between a car and truck Tuesday afternoon near the landfill southwest of Salina has claimed the life of a 91-year-old Salina woman.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said it appeared that Mildred Cassaw tried to make a u-turn at the intersection of Burma Road and Waterwell Road about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The car Cassaw was driving was struck on the drivers side by a truck carrying a large trash dumpster. Cassaw was taken to Salina Regional Health Center where she died late Tuesday night.

The driver of the truck, 30-year-old Donald Stephens, was not injured.
