Road Closing And Opening Update From Saline County

Pleasant Hill Road, from Link Road to Hedville Road will be closed Monday, May 16th, for the replacement of an existing drainage structure on Pleasant Hill Road with a new reinforced concrete box culvert (RCB). The structure is 25 feet east of Powers Road and is over an unnamed tributary of Mulberry Creek.

In addition, Powers Road from Watkins Road from Pleasant Hill Road will be closed at the same time for replacement of a cross road culvert on Powers Road 25 feet north of Pleasant Hill Road. The work at this site is anticipated to be completed by end of middle of June. Of course, completion is dependent on unforeseen conditions such as adverse weather.

Through traffic will be restricted during the construction period and motorists are advised to allow a few extra minutes of travel time to reach their destinations. Local and emergency traffic will be provided access to private property within the sections of closed roads at all times but only from the sides of the project site upon which the property lies. The only times these properties may not be accessible might be during possible critical stages of construction when it is impractical to carry on construction operations and simultaneously allow local traffic.

Saline County opened bids on this project on January 18, 2011. This project consists of the replacement of a total of fourteen existing drainage structures with new reinforced concrete box culverts distributed throughout the County. Two bids were received. The low bidder on all sites was Reece Construction Company, Inc. of Scandia, Kansas. They were awarded a contract for $647,505.00. The project is funded from the 2-mil fund for bridge and culvert replacement. This particular box culvert is the eighth of the fourteen to be replaced.

Muir Road from Falun Road to Hedberg Road will be closed beginning Monday (May 16th), morning to permit Saline County Road and Bridge Department crews to replace an existing cross road culvert pipe about 0.5 mile south of Falun Road. It is anticipated that the replacement will be completed by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 17th. Of course, completion is dependent on unforeseen conditions such as adverse weather. No traffic on this section of road will be permitted while these repairs are being made.
