City Of Salina Announces Micro-Surfacing Work Begins On Tuesday

Location: Elm Street; 3rd Street to Ohio Street

Duration of Work: 2 working days
(Tuesday-Wednesday)

Coats of Asphalt Mix: 1

Starting May 17, 2011, between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., the City contractor Ballou Pavement Solutions, Inc. will begin laying one to two coats of Micro-Surfacing on approximately 4 miles of City streets (locations attached). Weather permitting, this work is planned to continue through June 3, 2011. The work will include applying the asphalt mix and placing temporary pavement markings. The permanent pavement markings will be placed shortly after project completion.

As with any street project, there will be some inconvenience to the public. As areas are completed, they will be reopened to traffic, usually within two to four hours. The public should be prepared for minor delays.

Micro-Surfacing is a method of pavement surface treatment which prolongs the serviceability of streets by creating a moisture-resistant barrier while increasing the rideability. This process has been successfully used in Salina for many years. Combined with joint and crack sealing, this surface treatment program extends the service life of pavement.

For additional questions, contact the Public Works Department at 785-309-5725.
