“Bath Salts” added to controlled substances list

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback signed a bill addressing hallucinogenic drugs marketed as “bath salts”, Wednesday.

So-called “bath salts” and “potpourri” were both added to a list of substances treated as controlled substances under Kansas law.

The products were marketed as bath salts but contain the synthetic drug methylenedioxypyrovalerone, or MDPV.

Users smoke or snort the substance, and the high is described as similar to feelings from methamphetamine or Ecstasy. The packets were sold legally over the counter before the permanent ban.
