The Saline County Sheriff’s Office has a new DARE vehicle and prevention officer.

Deputy Robert Little, who has been with the Sheriff’s office since 2010, was recently named the new prevention officer, replacing Deputy Scott Tremblay, who has been reassigned to investigations.

Little tells The Salina Post that he will teach DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) to students at several area high schools including St. John’s Military School, Sacred Heart, Ell-Saline and Southeast of Saline. He will also teach things like vehicle restraint safety such as child seat and seat belt safety, as well as impaired driving prevention.

Deputy Little has also been issued a new vehicle entirely funded through donations. The vehicle, a 2013 Ford Explorer, was donated by Long McArthur Ford. The dealership paid for the vehicle’s design wrap, which includes a Saline County Sheriff’s badge and DARE logo, which was installed by Sign Pro and Pro Wrap. Radio equipment for the new vehicle was donated by Ka-Comm of Salina and a push bumper was furnished by Thunderstuck.

The Explorer, which replaced a 2008 model also donated by Long McArthur, will also be used for other things, including patrol and emergency services.

Little said he will be traveling to Tennessee in the upcoming weeks to attend a DARE training event. The new Explorer will serve as his transportation to that event.

Prior to being named the new prevention officer, Little previously served in the Sheriff’s patrol and corrections divisions.
