A Salina Police patrol unit equipped with a license plate reader, helps lead to the arrest of a man on drug charges.

I-135/I-70 Drug Task Force commander, Lt. Bill Cox said 44-year-old Previn J. Araujo was driving his car westbound in the 1100 block of W. North Street around 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning when the license plate reader got a hit on a car in which the owner had an outstanding warrant.

Araujo pulled the car over in the 500 block of Reynolds and falsely identified himself to the officer. He claimed to be his brother. The officer let Araujo go and a short time later, learned that he had another outstanding warrant for giving false information on December 1st.

The officer went back, watched the car, and then arrested Araujo, who was found with a large amount of cash on him.

A Kansas Highway Patrol drug dog indicated drugs were in the car, and after obtaining a search warrant, officers found methamphetamine, marijuana, and cocaine in the car, along with a loaded handgun.

Araujo was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of aggravated weapons violations by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, no Kansas tax stamp, unlawful possession of drug proceeds, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, open container, and a outstanding warrant from Sumner County.
