TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) – The state of Kansas has paid nearly $220,000 to defend former Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline’s administration in a lawsuit alleging sexual discrimination.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that records it received through an open records request show the state paid $219,172 in fees and expenses through mid-February of this year to defend against the lawsuit.
In August 2008, senior prosecutor Jacqie Spradling alleged in a complaint filed with the Kansas Human Rights Commission that she was fired from the Johnson County District Attorney’s office in retaliation for her complaints of sexual discrimination.
Attorneys for the employees sued in the case deny Spradling’s allegations.
The lawsuit is to go to trial Oct. 24.
