A 23 year old man was arrested early Sunday morning after assaulting a Salina Police Officer. Officer Sean Wilcox was called to the 1100 block of E Iron about 2:15 am to locate a suspect of a battery.

When Wilcox arrived in the area he saw the suspect who began to run. The officer was able to catch the man and handcuff him.

As the suspect was being patted down at the patrol car, he became belligerent and head butted officer Wilcox.

The suspect Joel Heil was placed face down on the hood of the patrol car and head butted the car, and then was placed on the ground and continued to try to head butt the three officers that finally were able to subdue him.

Heil was arrested on charges that include felony aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, and damage to property.

Officer Wilcox who did suffer bruising around the eyes, did go to the emergency room to be checked, did not require any medical treatment.

The person who filed the original battery complaint did not pursue charges.
