A 21-year-old Salina man was arrested Christmas night after he reared ended a pickup just north of Salina, and then hit the driver of the pickup in the head three times.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said Matthew J. Dimaplas was driving a Toyota Rav4 in the 2000 block of N. Ohio at about 8:15 p.m. and rear ended a Ford F-250 pickup driven by 46-year-old Jerald L. Steffenhagen Jr., also of Salina.

Dimaplas, who had been drinking, asked Steffenhagen not to call police. When he did begin to call authorities, Dimaplas hit Steffenhagen in the face and head.

Dimaplas was arrested on requested charges of driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a breath test, violation of drivers license restrictions, following to close, battery, and obstruction.

The bumper on the pickup was damaged. The car had front end damage.
