According to the Kansas Highway Patrol one person was killed and one injured in in a head-on collision near U-50 at Ridge Road or milepost 267.8 (approximately 3 miles West of Newton, KS).

Lisa Dame, 20 of Hesston, was Eastbound on U-50, she reportedly swerved to the right to avoid traffic that was slowing down and lost control.

She crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Kathy Warford, 52 of Halstead.

Warford was killed in the accident and Dame was transported to the Newton Medical Center with unspecified injuries.
