Carl Raymond Owens, of Salina, was born July 25, 1940, and entered heaven Jan. 4, 2016.
Carl is survived by his wife of 54 years, Pauline; daughter, Tammy Conner; sons, Keith and George; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy McConkey and Betty Lauxman; brothers, William and Gene; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luke and Mable Owens; daughter, Julie Ann; sisters, Catherine Alexander and Ruth Monasmith; and brothers, James, Gerald, Donald and David.
Carl worked at Frisbee Construction for 21 years and Great Plains Trucking for 28 years. After retiring, Carl started Owens Escort Service.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at First Church of the Nazarene, Salina.

Peggy Sue Hayes, 60, of St. George, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016. She was born October 8, 1955 in Argentia, Newfoundland, the daughter of Don and Joyce (Hanson) Ades.
She was preceded in death by her father, Don and sister, Cindy Bieker. Survivors include her husband, Henry Hayes; mother, Joyce Ades; two nieces, Stephanie Bieker and Rachel Bieker and great-nephew, Ryan Bieker.
Cremation has been chosen. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 10, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401.

Loyd A. Franklin
91, passed away Wednesdy, January 6th, in Abilene. He was born August 21, 1924 in Chanute, the son of Arthur and Estelle (Hubler) Franklin. Growing up in Chanute and Abilene, Loyd attended local schools. He was a Marine Veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. On June 19, 1947, Loyd married Mahree Adams. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. He had been employed by McKenna Pontiac in Junction City for 30 years, retiring in 1988. She preceded him in death in 2007. Loyd enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, raising Britney Spaniels, Old cars, trap shooting and square dancing. He was also preceded in death by a son, Loyd A. Franklin Jr.; his parents; 2 sisters, Erma Taylor and Delores Wilson and 2 brothers, Leroy and Warren Franklin.

Marguerite Townsdin, age 90, died Mon., Jan. 4, 2016 at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, KS. She was born on June 29, 1925 in Rural Jamestown, KS to Winnie G. & Goldie M. (French) Krohn.
Marguerite graduated from Concordia High School and was a lifelong Cloud Co. resident. She married Glen F. Townsdin on Oct. 22, 1944 in Concordia, KS & he preceded her on Aug. 21, 2007. She worked at the ASCS office in Concordia until she retired in 1981. Marguerite sold seed for many years after retirement along with raising cattle and working on the farm with Glen. She enjoyed spending time at the Jamestown Senior Center and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
She is survived by her daughters; Illene Hess and Friend Ron, Topeka, Shirley Riek, Clay Center, Patsy Jackson, Blue Rapids & Carol Bisnette, Concordia; sister, Pauline Fuller (Keith), Concordia & numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; her parents; son, James in 1997; daughters, Jeanette Townsdin in 1960 & Sandra “Sandy” Miller in 2010; great grandson, Brecken Townsdin in 2001.

Harold C. Granere, age 98, entered into rest on Mon, Jan. 4, 2016 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, Kansas. He was born July 23, 1917 in York, Nebraska to John and Edna (Peterson) Granere.
Harold grew up in Washington County, Kansas. He graduated 8th grade from Marcotte Country School in Rural Washington County. Harold was a Clyde High School Graduate.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed Bible Class and Fellowship Hour. He also was part of the men’s group & the annual pancake supper. Communion had a special meaning in his life. He enjoyed gardening, especially raising onions and sweet potatoes.
Family members include: Evelyn Peterson & family, Clifton; Jean Peterson & family, Manhattan; Caroline Peterson & family, Clifton; Delores (Davis) Surpenant, Snohomish, WA; Trudy (Peterson) Collins, Diamond Springs, CO.

Roland (Ron) Henry Brummer was born on September 17, 1939 in Tipton, Kansas to Joseph and Catherine (Thomas) Brummer. He died on January 4, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital Resident Care Center, at the age of 76 years, 3 months, and 18 days. Ron, as he was known by his family, lived in Tipton where his father was a car dealer and sold implements. They later moved to Beloit. Ron grew up with 4 brothers, Jerry, Clarence, Kenny, and Virgil, and 5 sisters, Joan, Elaine, Dora, Loretta, and Arlene. He attended school at St. John’s and graduated from St. John’s High School. During this time he worked for the Beloit Motor Co., he saved his money, and bought his first house when he was 17 years old. As Ron continued to work for the Beloit Motor Co. he would buy a house and rent it to pay for investing in another house, at one time he owned 17 houses. He stated he didn’t really have the time or interest to fix them up so he just rented them out instead. He was drafted into the Army when he was 18 and served for 18 years. He and his brother Clarence also owned Brummer Sinclair across the street from Beloit Motors. Shortly after his discharge from the service in 1964, Ron met Betty Melton through a blind date. Ron’s younger brother was dating Betty’s cousin Beth. Ron and Betty dated for about a month before tying the knot and to this union two sons were born. Michael and Mark. Ron and Betty were married nearly 20 years before this union dissolved. Ron later met Noma Pfister while she was playing the piano at the VFW and they began to date. They were married for nearly 7 years before this union dissolved. Ron is a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed music and dancing and loved to listen to Noma play the piano. Ron also collected antique cars and had a 57 Chevy restored. He enjoyed watching Mike drive his race car at the Beloit fair each year and his grandson Zachary play various sports. Ron had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking with people. Survivors include two sons; Mike and wife Charissa, Mark all of Beloit, Kansas; three grandchildren: Cole, Beloit and Vanessa and husband Zachary Schwarz, San Antonia, Texas, and Zach Brummer, Beloit; sisters: Rusti Krone of McPherson, Kansas, Dorlyn and husband Lynn Kersh of Tyler Texas, Elaine and husband Harvey Donahoo of Aurora, Colorado, and Joan Laraby of Great Bend, Kansas; brothers: Gerald and wife Pauline and Clarence and wife Mary Lou all of Beloit, Kansas, Virgil and wife Sue of Concordia, Kansas; sister-in-law Beth Brummer; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lois Mae (Crawford) Lee was born September 2, 1928 in Lincoln, Kansas to George & Lottie Mae (Bergman) Crawford. Lois grew up in Clay Center. A few months before she turned 18 she was married to Dale Wesley Lee on June 28, 1946, they had 8 children, Ronnie, Bobbie, Donnie, Dannie, Lonnie, Johnnie, Connie Mae and Bonnie. Over the years Lois, Dale and the children had many adventures, in California and Kansas some profitable and some not. The Lee Family owned many Mom & Pop Grocery Stores, a few Motels, a small Kansas farm,and even a redworm farm. Lois and Dale traveled across the United States in many unique Motor Homes to Flea Markets, Coon Dog Swaps and Exotic Animal Auctions. Lois is preceded by her parents, her husband Dale, sons Ronnie and Bobbie; Sister Lelia Eye, Brothers; Leonard, Leeland, Lucky, and Lowell.

Lila “Ruth” Seal Chapman was born December 23, 1915, in Clay County, Kansas to Charles and Mary Alice (Gunselman) Seal. She died on January 05, 2015. She was the granddaughter of Joseph Seal, who immigrated, with his family of 12, in 1869, from Northamptonshire, England, and homesteaded in Gill Township, where Ruth was reared. That property remains in family possession. She graduated from Clay Center High School in 1935 and attended Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas. In 1937 she traveled by train to Medford, Oregon, where she married Floyd Chapman, formerly of Wakefield. Their first date was to the “Green” picnic. In 1942 they returned to Kansas with their three children and began farming in Clay County. In 1957 they purchased the International Harvester business in Minneapolis, Kansas. They operated “Chapman Implement” until they retired to rural Wakefield and resided near Ruth’s childhood home. During retirement they wintered in Harlingen, Texas where they enjoyed their circle of friends. They traveled frequently, visiting family and friends from Texas to Alaska.
Ruth was best known for her quiet and loving manner; she always put others before herself. She was a wonderful cook and seamstress, making many clothes for her family. She was an avid gardener and preserved food for her family; however, cultivating roses was her forte.
Floyd, her husband of 65 years, preceded her in death on December 9, 2004. Others who preceded her in death were her parents; her sisters, Esther Yarrow and Marguerite Barney; son, Larry Chapman; grandsons, Petey Blevins and John McClure; and one great-grandson, Chris Blevins. Survivors include her brother, Royal Seal, of Sequim, Washington; son, John (Deb) Chapman of Wakefield; and daughters, Marcile (Marcy) Chapman, Manhattan, Kansas; Sandy (Charles) Bieker of Wakefield; and Marilyn (Gilbert) McClure of Kansas City, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth willed her body to KU Medical Center for research. A private family celebration will be held at a later date.

LAURENCE “LARRY” CHITTY, 87 died January 6, 2016 in Olathe, KS. He was born on November 27, 1928 in Clay Center, KS, the son of James and Anne (Loftus) Chitty. Larry was raised in Jamestown. He joined the US Navy. On April 5, 1948, he joined the Army Air Corps which became the US Air Force. He was stationed at bases around the United State and the world. Larry married Jeanette Swenson Eagan in Wichita Falls, TX in 1958. He retired from The Air Force in 1968. They made their home in Raytown, MO where he worked as a Warehouse Manager until his retirement in 1989. He belonged to the Air Force Sergeants Assn., 62 Wing Assn., Disabled Veterans Assn., American Legion and the Professional Load Masters Assn. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Mike, Bobby Wayne, George and Steve, sister Sharon Chitty and military brother, TK Davis.

Dale E. Novotny, 69, died Jan. 1, 2016 in Hutchinson. He was born March 24, 1946 in Ellsworth to Winslow and Marie Novotny.
Dale worked in the Lawn and Garden Center at Wal-Mart in Hutchinson and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Navy. On Sept. 25, 1992, he married Glenna Montgomery. Jerry W. Anderson, 62, of McPherson, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, surrounded by family at his home in McPherson. He was the Lead Machine Operator in the Siding Department at CertainTeed Corporation, working there for 20 years.
Jerry was born on December 3, 1953, in Evansville, Indiana, the son of Ned and Ruth (Young) Anderson. He graduated from Lindsborg High School. Jerry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. On May 9, 1981, he was united in marriage to Patricia Debenham in Abilene, KS.
