Craig Eugene Mattison, 58, of Salina, lost his battle with cancer Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 7, 1957, in Salina to Harold and Peggy Mattison.

Craig graduated from Salina South High School in 1975. After high school, Craig drove truck cross country for M Bruenger Trucking for three years, then drove for Haynes Transport in Salina until a tragic accident in 1984. He then returned to school to earn an electrical engineering degree, graduating from Kansas College of Technology in 1988.

Craig was a senior technical specialist designer for Westar Energy, working there for 27 years. Craig had an art of creative writing, a positive attitude and a great sense of humor. Quote from a co-worker: “Craig is one of the hardest working people you will ever meet.”

Craig never hesitated going out at all hours of the night to help friends set their computers up or to fix a problem. He enjoyed helping people any way he could. He was a very giving, generous person. Craig loved life and enjoyed working.

Craig was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Earl and Eunice (Beck) Mattison; maternal grandparents, Chester and Geraldine (Tappana) Massey; brother, Wesley Roy Mattison; and sister, Deborah Joy (Mattison) Webb.

Craig is survived by his parents, Harold and Peggy (Massey) Mattison, of the home; wife, Renee; daughter, Marsha (John Adam), of Salina; son, Chad Mattison, of Culver; grandson, Justin Adam, of Salina, and one grandson on the way; brothers, Steve (Lindsay) Mattison, of Highlandville, Mo., Terry (Jelene) Mattison, of Falun; and brother-in-law, Danny Webb, of Smolan.

He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and Craig’s little buddy, Tyler Andrews.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at United Methodist Church of the Cross, 1600 Rush St., Salina. A reception will follow the service.

Wilma Baldwin, 92, of Salina, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016. Born Wilma Priddy on Aug. 23, 1923, daughter of Harry C. and Harriet Inez Priddy, she grew up in Cullison.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 2008.

She is survived by her children, Rita (Duane) Tinkler, of Assaria, Sharilyn, of Centennial, Colo., Darryl (Denise), of Lafayette, Ind., Barbara (Mike) Morris, of Rockwall, Texas, and Roma (Lowell) Wriston, of Denver.

Her grandchildren are Jason Tinkler, of Assaria, Dr. Karma Loughney, of Topeka, Matt Baldwin, of Grayslake, Ill., Chris Baldwin, of Mesa, Ariz., Ashley Komoroski, of St. Charles, Mo., Rebecca Johnson, of Broomfield, Colo., Erin Baldwin, of Mt. Horeb, Wis., Downer Dykes, of Huntington, W.Va., and Robert Dykes, of Dallas. She has 10 great-grandchildren.

Wilma graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield with a music degree. She taught school in Norwich and Miltonvale before marriage, but her love of music was always apparent while being a farm wife and mother. She sang in church choir, led the children’s choir, was in the church bell choir, and performed many vocal and instrumental solos in church over the years. She was in Staccato Notes Music Club, and played trombone in the Salina Municipal Band and violin in the Salina Symphony. She was also a longtime 4-H sewing leader, and active in Redbird Circle of the United Methodist Women, the church’s Pathfinder class and Friendly Neighbor Club.

Visitation will be held from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina, with the family receiving friends from 6-8.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at University United Methodist Church, 1509 S. Santa Fe, Salina. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina.

Quinton H. Brown

83, passed away Thursday, January 14th, in Salina. He was born October 20, 1932 west of Holland the son of Olin and Agnes (Howie) Brown. Growing up in the area, Quinton attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1951. On October 29, 1966, he married Waneta Dillon in Salina. All of their married life was spent in Salina. Quinton had been employed by Kooken Electric in Abilene and Jarrett Electric in Salina, retiring in 1998. He enjoyed wood working, going to auctions, spending time on the family farm and attending musical events.

HERINGTON – Frances Ellen Grover, 80, of Wilsey, KS, departed this life on Saturday, January 9th, 2016, at Diversicare of Council Grove.  She was born on August 16th, 1935, at Burdick, Kansas.  She was the daughter of Francis L. and Delphia M. (Herdnan) Pilcher.

Mrs. Grover bequeathed her remains to the University of Kansas Medical Center, School of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology.  Her services will be at a later date.

Mrs. Grover worked as a typist for Boeing Aircraft and as a switchboard operator for the telephone company.  She and her husband lived in Stoughton, MA, for many years before returning to Kansas.  She graduated from high school in 1952 at Diamond Valley High School near Burdick, KS.  She was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church of Council Grove.

She married Robert W. Grover on December 12, 1951, at Herington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2010.  She is also preceded in death by an infant son Robert Grover, three sisters Mary A. Peterson, Cora Peterson, Anne Wilson, two brothers Buford Pilcher, Roland Pilcher, and her parents.

She is survived by two daughters Cathy Ann Grover of Americus, KS, Yvonne Bachura and her husband Michael of Alta Vista, KS, four sons William S. Grover of Missouri, Michael Grover and his wife Melissa of Council Grove, Patrick Grover and his wife Carol of Arizona, Kelly F. Grover and his wife Heather of Wilsey, numerous grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Edna Lee (Reed) Taylor passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, surrounded by three generations of family, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas, at the age of 94. She was born on November 10, 1921 in Stockton, Kansas to the late Willis D. and Winnie May (Anderson) Reed. She grew up in Rooks County, Kansas and graduated from Stockton High School with the Class of 1939. She went on to attend Normal School in Hays receiving her Teaching Certificate so she could teach school in Bazine and Stockton. On June 2, 1945 she was united in marriage to Charles Albert Taylor in Stockton.

After teaching school for several years, Edna Lee was happy to start life as a wife, mother, and homemaker. When she wasn’t too busy raising her family, she enjoyed reading, photography, gardening, playing cards, especially Pinochle, and was an avid fan of Fox News. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Woodston and the United Methodist Women. After moving to Hays, she attended the First Presbyterian Church.

Second only to her love for God, was her love for her family. Indeed they were her reason for living and being. She always enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren whenever possible. As the matriarch of the family, she was also the family historian and genealogy expert. Over the years she collected an entire library of family records and established lifelong relationships with extended family members across the country and around the world.

Edna Lee is survived by her sons John Taylor and wife Kathie of Hays, Paul Taylor and wife Colleen of Hays, and Tracy Lee Taylor of Oklahoma City, OK; daughters Bertha May Taylor of Mission, and Barbara Ellen Mullen and husband John of Dodge City; brother Clyde D. Reed and wife Elizabeth of Torrance, CA; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Willis D. and Winnie May Reed, husband Charles Albert Taylor, and brother Irwin Reed.

Edna Lee was truly a woman of faith, hope, and love. Selflessly looking after her family and friends, she cared more about others than she did herself and showed us through thought, word, and deed that the greatest of these was love. As she rejoices in Heaven with her loving heavenly father and the family who have gone before her, we will love and miss her until we all meet again on the streets of gold.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home in Stockton with burial following at the Stockton City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 pm on Friday at the funeral home.

Louanna Ellis Robinson, 85, passed away in Salina, Kansas on January 13, 2016, following a short illness. She was the fourth child to Clyde and Charlotta (Piepmeier) Ellis and was born on the family farm south of Appleton City, Missouri on August 1, 1930.

She attended Appleton City Schools first through 12th grade. She met her future husband, Marlin Robinson, after he returned home from World War II, while he was living in Appleton City, Missouri helping his brother run the weekly newspaper. They later married in Clinton, Missouri on May 15, 1948. This union was blessed with three children: Roger, Marlena, and Creighton.

Louanna and Marlin continued to work in the printing business in Sedalia, Missouri and Topeka, Kansas. They moved to Wilson, Kansas with their three children after purchasing the Wilson World where they printed the weekly paper from 1954 until 1974. After selling the paper, she and Marlin started the Wilson Ribbon Company in 1974 and continued to operate it until 1990. With their first oil well purchase in the mid 1980’s, Mar Lou Oil Company began, which was one of their numerous business ventures.

Louanna greatly enjoyed her family and her card clubs. She spent countless hours watching her children and grandchildren play and coach multiple sports. She served on numerous committees for the First Presbyterian Church as a longtime member, the Wilson State Bank Board of Directors and the Wilson Chamber of Commerce and made it her goal every year to sell the most tickets for the After Harvest Czech Festival. Together, Louanna and Marlin enjoyed traveled extensively around the world with their close friends.

Louanna is survived by two sons; Roger (Sandy) of Wilson, Kansas and Creighton (Sharolyn) of Evanston, Wyoming and daughter Marlena (Ken) Kjelland, Temple, Texas ; eight grandchildren: Casey Robinson, Bret and Kaci Nichols, Justin and Heather Robinson, Shawn Naegele, Matthew and Christopher Kjelland and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin, of 67 years on October 14, 2015; her parents and three brothers: George, C.W., and Wade Ellis.
