Shirley-Deines-1452948378Shirley Beatrice Deines, 77, of Smolan, Kansas, passed away Friday, January 15th, 2016.

Shirley was born in Kansas City, Kansas on February 25, 1938, a daughter of the late Minnie Elizabeth (McKain) Smith and Lester Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Deines of the home; daughters, Debbie E. Zargoza, of Overland Park, Kansas, Pamela S. Myers, of Salina, Kansas, Donna D. Hill, of Salina, Kansas, Sherrie K. Roets, of Salina, Kansas, Penny L. Perez, of Salina, Kansas; sister, Johanna Luce; 13 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lester Smith Jr., Joseph Smith; sisters, Roberta Layton, Jean Smith; son, Terry E. Hill; son-in-law, Michael Zaragoza; granddaughters, Angela Hernandez and Danielle Zaragoza.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 18 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Graveside services at Swedish Evangelical Cemetery, Smolan, Kansas, at 1:00 pm on Monday, January 18th, with Rev. Jon Fillipi officiating.

John B. Harder
82, passed away Saturday, January 16th, in Salina. He was born November 19, 1933 in Wichita, the son of Jacob B. and Mary L. (Kenny) Harder. Growing up in the area, John attended local schools. He had been employed in the oil fields around El Dorado early in life. On May 21, 1955 John married Thelma Dickson in Newton. Most all of their married life has been spent in Abilene. He was a Marine Corps Veteran. John had also been employed as a delivery man by Pepsi. In 1995 he began as foreman at Abilene Concrete, eventually becoming a partner and retiring in 1995. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting and fishing, golf, darts, playing pitch and canoeing. John was preceded in death by a son, John D. Harder and a great-grandson, Justin D. Harder, three sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Friday, January 22nd, at the Danner Funeral Home with Rev. Stan Norman officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:30 PM Thursday, January 21st, a the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. vet_ffffff3559574_wlppWAINE ROLLAND TURNER, 92 died January 15, 2016 at Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, KS. He was born on January 27, 1923 in Solomon, KS, the son of Harry and Neva (Stout) Turner. Waine was raised in the Vine Creek area near Longford. He graduated from Minneapolis High School. Waine served in the US Army during WWII. Following the war, he owned and operated a farm. In 1960, Waine purchased the grocery store in Miltonvale and operated it until his retirement in 1991. He also worked as a clerk in the Miltonvale Post Office. Waine attended of F.C. Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church, Lions Club and the American Legion. He served as mayor of Miltonvale, Miltonvale Fire Department, Boys Supervisor for the Salina YMCA, Sulpher Springs School Board He is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the F.C. Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church in Miltonvale, KS

Officiating the service will be Pastor Sam Flick, Pastor Daniel Dennison and Pastor Tim Hutararat

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Phelps Funeral Home

Memorials: Teens for Christ or the F.C. Hill Memorial Wesleyan Church
