A flue to a gas stove plugged by a bird’s nest, caused a small amount of fire and smoke damage to a building in Brookville on Saturday.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said James Brown of Salina left a fire going in the stove at 116 E. Anderson Saturday at about 10:30 a.m.

When Brown returned at 5:30 p.m., he found damage to the roof caused by the fire and smoke damage throughout the building.

Saline County Rural Fire District #3 was called to ventilate the building and make sure the fire was out.

No damage estimate was immediately available.
