As we are in the midst of another tax season, Salina Police remind you to be aware of telephone scams in which someone claiming to be from the Internal Revenue Service tells you that you need to pay your taxes immediately or you will go to jail.
Salina Police Captain Mike Sweeney said the scammers will claim that you will go to jail if you do not pay back taxes with either a Western Union money order or a green dot card.
Sweeney said the IRS will not call and demand immediate payment, and if you get one of these calls to hang up.
If you’re not sure, make contact with the IRS yourself.
