Flooding prompts evacuations in Manhattan

MANHATTAN, Kansas (AP) – About 200 people are being evacuated because of flooding along Wildcat Creek in Manhattan.

Riley County police Capt. Kurt Moldrup says the evacuations are occurring along the creek in southwest Manhattan. KMAN reports that some people are also being evacuated in nearby Ogden.

Wildcat Creek flooded after more than 3 inches of rain fell in an hour late Wednesday and early Thursday.

WIBW reports that the Red Cross has set up a shelter at St. Thomas Moore Church.

The National Weather Service reports that heavy rains fell across much of northeast Kansas, leaving low-level flooding and closing several roads.
