Target Shooting Starts Grass Fire

2-27 grass fireTarget practice Saturday afternoon started a fire which consumed 160 acres of grass and trees.

Saline County Sheriff’s Captain Roger Soldan said target shooting at tannerite in the 3000 block of S. Simpson Road started the fire, that quickly moved north to nearby Magnolia Road at around 4 p.m.

Saline County Rural Fire Districts 5 and 7 responded to the fire that damaged some fence posts. Fire District 5 reported some damage to three fire trucks while fighting the fire. Some homes in the area were threatened by the fire but not damaged.

Fire crews finished up at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

There were no injuries.
