Salina Man Assaults Police Officer After Jaw Broken During Fight

A 20-year-old Salina man will be facing charges of assaulting a police officer and minor in consumption of alcohol, after he gets out of the hospital for treatment of a broken jaw he received during a fight early Saturday morning.

Police were called to the 600 block of S. 2nd about 12:40 Saturday morning to the report of a fight involving several people.

When they arrived, officers found Jacob Saum of 2840 E. Ray Ave, with scratches and abrasions on his arms and face. He also appeared to have a broken jaw and several loose teeth.

Saum was belligerent with officers, and clenched his fist, and charged an officer, before he was taken down to the ground and handcuffed. He was then placed in an ambulance to be taken to the hospital for treatment of his injures.

Captain Mike Sweeney says the investigation into the fight continues to determine who beat Saum.
