Panasuk to the AFL: Wichita Force quarterback Stephen Panasuk signed with the AFL’s Cleveland Gladiators earlier this week. With Panasuk moving up the ladder, Wichita signed two quarterback’s: Jeffrey Legree, who previously played in the AIF, and David Olson, who has also spent time in the AIF. Olson spent four years at Stanford University and transferred to Clemson for his fifth year of eligibility. Legree played overseas in Germany for two years and one season in Poland. Upon returning to the United States, Legree signed with the Reading Raptors of the Major Indoor Football League (MIFL) and played on their 2015 championship team and was named Player of the Year. Legree also saw time in the AIF with the Central Florida Jaguars. The Force also signed former Salina Liberty defensive back Dontr’a Matthews earlier this week. Matthews was released by Salina on April 19th.
Former ‘Cat signs with Liberty: Former Kansas State linebacker Tre Walker was picked up by the Salina Liberty earlier this week. Walker, who played at K-State from 2010-2013, most recently played for the Nebraska Danger in the IFL. He was part of a K-State defense that helped lead the Wildcats to a victory in the 2013 Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and the 2012 Big XII Championship. Walker will help a Salina defense that lost lineman Ron Johnson to a broken leg this past week.
Week 9 Results
Omaha 50, Chicago 27: Winners of two straight, Omaha now has a winning record of 4-3 after a decisive win over Chicago. After suffering their second straight loss, the Eagles are now 2-5 and are tied with Salina for last place in the North Division.
Wichita 32, Bloomington 27: Wichita snapped their two-game losing streak with the victory over the Edge. The Force are now 5-2 and still just a half-game back of North Division leading Sioux City. Bloomington falls to 2-4 with the loss.
Sioux City 41, Salina 39: The defending champion and North Division leading Sioux City Bandits barely escaped Salina with the win, their fourth straight. The Bandits improved to 6-2, keeping them just ahead of Wichita. Salina falls to 2-5 with their second straight loss and remains tied for last place with Chicago in the North Division.
Texas 68, Duke City 63: Texas prevailed in a highly contested game with Duke City. The Revolution, now winners of four straight, improved to 6-1, keeping them a game ahead of Dodge City in the South Division standings, while the Gladiators, who have now lost two straight, fell to 4-3, putting them a game behind the Law and two behind the Revolution.
San Angelo 78, Amarillo 33: In the biggest surprise of the week, San Angelo picked up their first win of the season in a blowout of Amarillo. The Bandits are now 1-6 and the Venom fall to 4-3, tying them for 3rd Place in the South Division standings.
Week 9 CIF Players of the Week
Offensive Player of the Week: Chris Mitchell, QB, San Angelo Bandits – Mitchell was 23 of 35 passing for 368 yards and 9 touchdowns in the Bandits stunning blowout upset of Amarillo.
Defensive Player of the Week: Calvin Gant, DB, Chicago Eagles – Gant had 14 total tackles, 13 of them solo with 3 tackles for loss in a losing effort at Omaha.
Special Teams Player of the Week: Dylan Calder, K, Texas Revolution – Calder was 8 for 10 on extra points, a key factor in the Revolution’s 5-point win over Duke City.
