The Salina Police Department and Kansas Highway Patrol announced on Friday they will be participating in the STEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Program) beginning Monday May, 23. The program will run through Sunday, June 5. The funding to pay for additional officers and troopers comes from a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The extra manpower will focus on texting, seatbelt enforcement, and looking for drivers under the influence.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office announced they would be participating earlier in the week.
