Stephen (Steve) D. Barrett, 63 departed this life on Wednesday May 18, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas. Steve was born November 21, 1952 in Herington, Kansas.
Steve was the oldest of three children, including Terri and Brenda, born to Walter and Joan (Stammers) Barrett. Steve graduated from Hope High School in 1971. His life was centered around his faith, family, and working the ground, planting for harvest and raising the cattle.
On January 22, 1975 Steve was united in marriage to Janet Ann Stroda. To this union two children were born: Travis and Justin. Steve was preceded in death by his father Walter.
Left to celebrate his life and many memories are his wife Janet, of the home; Travis and his wife Barb of Hope, Kansas and Justin and wife JaRae of Fort Worth, Texas; mother Joan Barrett of Salina, Kansas. Sister Terri Weber and her husband Denny of Herington, Kansas; Sister Brenda White of Salina, Kansas and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Hope with Father Soosai Rathinam and Father Mark Wesely as Celebrants. Parish Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M., Sunday, May 22, at Carlson-Becker Funeral Home in Hope. Family will receive friends following from 7:30 – 9:00. Steve’s final resting place will be at the Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Rural Hope. The family of Steve suggests memorials be given to the Chapman FFA Scholarship Fund or to the St. Phillip’s Catholic Church. 93, passed away Wednesday, May 18th, in Derby. He was born November 17, 1922 near Solomon, the son of Harvey L. and Ethel L. (Taylor) Brown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dickinson-Brown; a son, Garrett Maurice Brown; four brothers, Chester, Merle, Francis, and Harold Brown and a sister Vivian Ross.

Jean E. Clark,
72, passed away Thursday, May 19th, in Abilene. She was born July 31, 1943 in Abilene, the daughter of Alex and Elva (Cole) Longhofer. Jean attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1961. She had been employed by Southwestern Bell for 18 years, then for 20 years by the Dickinson County Court House, retiring in 2008. Jean enjoyed laughing with friends and family, feeding the birds and squirrels and Rock n Roll music. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Robert Longhofer. She is survived by 2 daughters; Lori (Matt) Carver of Abilene, Kiffany (Steve) Suenram of Salina, 2 sons; Dan (Stacey) Hoffman of Manhattan, Kent (Diane) Crider of Abilene, 10 grandchildren, 2 Great-grandchildren, 2 sisters; Judy(Tony) Mills of Abilene and Shirley (Corky) Serrault of Manhattan.
Jean had chosen cremation. Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Hillsboro – Amanda Ewert, 96, died May 17, 2016 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was born April 20, 1920 to Tobias and Mary (Thomas) Deckert at Marion, South Dakota. She was a secretary at The Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. She married John Ewert October 22, 1943 in Marion, South Dakota.
