Introducing Kindel Culver, your BANK VI Hero of the Week!

Kindel was nominated for the hard work and dedication she has given to A Hand Up Salina, Inc., which is she is the founder and primary operator of.

A Hand Up is a non-profit organization that supports the local community in multiple ways including helping families in need with food, household items, and clothing.

A Hand Up is comprised of at least five branches, all of which are Facebook group pages that have different purposes in serving the Salina community. They include Salina Area Free Stuff, Salina Area Neighbor’s Chat and Discuss, Salina Area Community Neighborhood Watch, Salina Area Kids on Bikes, and Salina Area Gay and Lesbian Outreach and Support.

Kindel started A Hand Up about six years ago. The idea originated during a visit to the Salina Landfill when she saw the amount of nice things that could be donated to others in need. She started the organization out of her own pocket and now funds it entirely through charitable donations.

One part of the organization recently raised enough money to provide ten brand new bicycles to children of families who may not have been able to afford one otherwise.

Kindel and A Hand Up also host events each year such as The Christmas Joy Project, which provides 100 local families with seven gifts per child each Christmas. A Halloween event is also put on each year for the kids to come in costume and take part in games and raffles.

According to those close to her, Kindel is the rare compassionate type of person who simply gives much of her own personal time helping people, even something as simple as giving a stranger a ride to the store. Kindel is very genuine in her efforts to better our community.
