Michael John Martin, 53, of Salina, passed away peacefully Monday, June 13, 2016. His wife, Clara, and children, Blase, Madeline, Olivia and Isaac, were at his side.
Survivors include his wife and children, as well as his father, Mike. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine.
Siblings include Maria (Dale), Gery (Keith), Pat (Selinda), Maureen (Robert), Greg (Claire), Bernie (Bob), Connie (Gene), Annie (Steve), Peter (Cyndi), Kathleen (Ted) and Rosie (Ron). Many nieces and nephews will also miss him dearly.
Michael was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Cathedral and was an agricultural loan officer for Clay County National Bank. He had been an ag loan officer for many years and traveled the state extensively for his work, making many friends along the way. Michael was also a farmer and stockman.
Michael had been involved in many school, church and civic activities and boards.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina. Burial will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, June 17, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral, Benedictine College and Sacred Heart High School.

Laura Mildred Smith was born January 24, 1923 near Reece, Kansas, in Spring Creek township of Greenwood County, Kansas the daughter of Mack and Lena (Borger) Wilkinson.
Laura graduated from Reece High School and received her bachelors from Emporia State and her masters from Ft. Hays.
Laura was an elementary school teacher and began her teaching career in a one room school. She then taught in Eureka, Bushong, Towanda, Virgil, Hamilton, and Concordia before retiring in 1986.
She attended the Brethren in Christ church in Abilene and enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the piano. She also enjoyed playing cards, gardening, traveling and watching the Kansas City Royals, and the Oklahoma City Thunder. She was also very active in senior center activities in Eureka and in Abilene after she moved here.
On June 1, 1946 Laura married William D. “Bill” Smith in Eureka, Kansas. He passed away February 8, 1987. Survivors include her daughter Linda and her husband John Cook of Abilene; son Ron and his wife Julie Smith of Satanta, Kansas; 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bill, sister Ida Martin, brothers John Lucas, A.J. (Jerome) Wilkinson, and George.
Laura passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at the Garten Country Side Home in Abilene. Funeral services for Laura will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 20, 2016 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Dale Engle officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at the Reece Cemetery near Reece, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home. Funeral services for Dawn Lorraine Linder, age 65, of Arlington, Texas, formerly of Hope, will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Baptist Cemetery #4 of DK county near Hope. Dawn passed away Thursday, June 16, 2016 at her home in Arlington. Dawn worked for Safran Turbomeca USA in Grand Prairie, TX as an accountant for 12 years.
She was born September 15, 1950 in Abilene, Kansas the daughter of Robert and Naomi Linder (divorced).
Survivors include her father Robert and stepmother Leola Linder of rural Hope; brother Dwight Linder of Topeka, KS; sisters Denise Wilson of Keller, TX, Darla Linder of Arlington, TX; step- brother Marty; and step-sister Nancy, half-brother Thomas, half-sister Roberta, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother Naomi in 2011.

Neoma Obermeyer Thayer
94, passed away May 1st in Florida. She was born June 27th, 1921 in Woodbine, Kansas, one of seven children born to Charles Martin and Lillie (Beckel) Obermeyer. Neoma and Dr. Bruce Thayer, a dentist in Abilene, were married in December 1942 and had two children, Charles in 1944 and Linda in 1947. Their married life was spent in Abilene until Bruce retired in 1976 and they moved to Alamo, Texas, located in the Rio Grande Valley near the Gulf of Mexico. He preceded her in death in March of 1996. She continued to live in their home along a golf course in Texas until moving to south Florida with Linda to be closer to Charles. Neoma moved into a new home built for her on a small lake at the Cascades, a gated senior community in St. Lucie West, Florida. She was very independent enjoying golf, playing mahjong with friends at the community club house and continuing to live in her own home. Neoma was very fortunate to have her children living very close to her, Linda living in Tradition and Charles, with his wife Molly, in Palm City. Charles has one son, Travis. Travis and his wife Megan, live in Atlanta and are the parents of Neoma’s three great-grandchildren, Liam, Grace and Maggie. Neoma enjoyed an active life with family nearby for frequent visits and dinner. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Neoma was loved by family and friends and will be missed by all that had the opportunity to know her.

Helen Ann Johanna Peterson, 85, of Rogers, AR and formerly of McPherson, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016, in Bentonville, AR. She had been a ward clerk and phlebotomist at Memorial Hospital in McPherson.
Helen was born July 1, 1930, in Lindsborg, KS, the daughter of Robert and Otelia (Larson) Fehr. She attended the Lindsborg schools and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1948.
On July 11, 1948, she was united in marriage to Billy Gene Peterson in Lindsborg. He preceded her in death on February 22, 2010.
She was a member of McPherson Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include; a daughter, Shari Edgell of Rogers, AR; two sons, Brad Peterson (Sharon) of Lansing, KS and Scott Peterson of McPherson, KS; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Margaret and June; and infant brother, Robert.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Mayse officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at Stockham Family Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Darlene M. Havel, the daughter of Raymond Begnoche and Thelma (Doorman) Begnoche, was born August 24, 1942 at Clifton, KS and passed away on June 15, 2016 at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS at the age of
73 years, 9 months, and 21 days.
Darlene attended the St. Joe Grade School and later graduated from Clyde High School, Clyde, KS in 1960. On August 19, 1962, she was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Havel. The couple made their home and farmed southwest of Cuba, KS for 24 years. They later moved to Belleville, KS where Darlene worked for the Telescope for 15 years. In 1988, she began work at the Republic County Highway Department as an engineer’s secretary retiring in 2012 after nearly 25 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, and one brother, Jerry Begnoche.
Darlene is survived by her husband Kenneth R. Havel of Belleville, KS; one daughter, Melana (Scott) Sandquist of Smolan, KS; one son Monte Ray (Pam) Havel of Burlingame, KS; 5 grandchildren: Nicholas and Tiffany Havel, Christopher and Lindsey Sandquist, Stephanie (Spencer) Brown, one great grandchild, Katie;

Downs, KS—Steven E. Stuart, 68, passed away June 15, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Ks. He was born March 28, 1948 in Beloit, the son of Leland “Sandy” and Maxine (Williams) Stuart.
He graduated from Downs High School, attended Fort Hays State University, and served in the Kansas Army National Guard.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ron Miles & Tyree Stuart; sister, Sandy Hennigan; nephew, Darrell Snyder, and step-daughter, Kristi McBride. He is survived by his wife, Dorine; daughters, Shalisha (Mark) Rank and Sarah Roeder, and son, Brett Stuart; sisters, Sharry (Jerry) Boyle, Jane (Randy) Beaver, Marla (Eldon) Turnbow, and brother, James (Jane) Stuart, 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
