578d134e2f25dKen Hale, age 51, died July 16, 2016 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

He was born Dec. 29, 1964 in Oklahoma City, OK, son of Kenneth and Alma Hale, He was a resident of Norman, OK all of his life until a recent move to Lyons, KS.  He graduated from Norman High School in 1983.

As a youth he was in scouts and went on to obtain Eagle Scout Rank.  He was an excellent carpenter and loved using those skills to help others.  His many interests included target shooting, bonsai, gardening, crafts and learning about history.  He was an amazing cook and loved cooking for and being with his family.  He had a wonderful, crazy sense of humor.  He was always smiling and making people laugh.  He adored his three dogs Misha, Lingers and Mia plus his two cats, Mama and Bella.

Ken is survived by his wife, Lesa Glenn Hale; brother Craig Hale; sister Nancy Hale and partner, Carole Painter; step-daughter Crystal Fall and husband Luke Fall; step-son Gavin Higgins and partner Sherry Lawrence ; three step-grandchildren Isaac, Piper, Addison and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

Doris Jean DeGraffenried Bird, 82, of Abilene passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at the Memorial Hospital in Abilene surrounded by family. She was born April 29, 1934 in Robards, Kentucky, the daughter of Luther and Hazel (Givens) Bowley. On September 2, 1951 , she was united in marriage to Kenneth Jack DeGraffenried. He preceded her in death in 1988. She later went on to marry William Bird on December 6, 1997. He survives of the home. Doris worked at nursing homes for 30 years as a Medicine Aide.
Doris is survived by her loving husband, William Bird of Abilene. Three daughters, Doris Ward and husband Derald; Kathy Heiser and husband Mark; Stacy Meuli and husband Monte. Two sons: Kenneth DeGraffenried and wife Shawna; Jeff DeGraffenried and wife Joann. Three step-daughters, Betty Whyte and husband Jim; Carolyn Kay Ehler and husband Bob and Roberta Robertson and husband Jim. Two sisters: Margaret Rose Thurby and Teresa Mt. Pleasant and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband Kenneth, four brothers and two sisters.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 21, 2016 from 6-8 P.M., at the Emmanuel Church in Abilene with a Memorial Service being held at 6:30 P.M., at the Church with Pastor Shane Britt Officiating. The family suggests memorials be given to the Memorial Health Systems Foundation. Hillsboro – Dorothy J. Foth, 99, died July 18, 2016 at Halstead.  She was born April 19, 1917 to Peter B. and Margaret (Franz) Nickel in Goessel.  She married Harvey W. Foth November 20, 1945 rural Goessel.  She was a cook for public schools.  Survivors include: son, Steven Foth of Newton; sister, Darlene (Jerry) Redinger of rural Halstead; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Predeceased by her husband, Harvy Foth in 2000 and daughter Diane Post.  Celebration of Life Service 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 25, 2016 at Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church officiated by Pastor Loyal Martin.  Interment at Hillsboro M.B. Cemetery in Hillsboro.  Family will receive guests from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the Church.  Memorials to Good Shepherd Hospice or Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church in care of Jost Funeral Home P.O.
