LAWRENCE, Ks (AP) – The body of a 7-year-old boy has been found in a lake south of Lawrence.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesman confirmed that the discovery was made around 8:30 a.m. Sunday at Lone Star Lake.
The Kansas City Star reported that authorities had been looking for the boy since Saturday afternoon. The search was called off Saturday night because of darkness and resumed Sunday morning.
Sgt. Steve Lewis didn’t release the boy’s name. He says the boy was last seen in a shallow swimming area. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket and wasn’t considered a swimmer.
