Power Pole Struck By Tractor

powerlinesNo one was hurt on Thursday when a tractor working in a cornfield struck a power pole in southern Saline County.

Undersheriff Roger Soldan said 74-year-old Harvey Weis was driving the tractor in a field in the 11,000 block of S. Centennial Road at about 4:38 p.m., when the tractor’s disc struck and snapped a power pole, causing power lines to come down on top of the tractor.

Weis remained in the cab of the tractor for more than an hour while Westar crews worked to get the live power lines back up.

Soldan said about 25 to 30 Westar customers were without power for about an hour as a result of the incident.
