A Salina man was arrested Sunday in connection with the theft of a neighbor’s car.

Police Captain Mike Sweeney said officers were sent to the 1600 block of Beverly Sunday afternoon after witnesses in the area saw a man opening car doors of several vehicles.

The man was observed getting into a white, 2002 Honda Civic owned by 74-year-old Juan Galaviz.

Sweeney said the vehicle was unlocked and a spare key left in the car was likely used to steal the vehicle.

Saline County Sheriff’s deputies later located the car near mile post 160 on Highway 81. Standing near the vehicle was 31-year-old Maurice Scott, who also lives in the 1600 block of Beverly.

Scott was booked on a requested charge of felony theft, according to Sweeney.
