There were no injuries in a house fire late Wednesday morning.
Salina Fire Marshal Roger Williams tells The Salina Post at the scene that the fire started just before 11 a.m. at 1437 Kiowa, when the home owner, Michael Hensley, was cooking in his kitchen.
Hensley had been frying chicken when a pot of grease boiled over and caught the pot and the kitchen cabinets on fire.
Fire crews arriving at the scene found smoke coming from the home.
Hensley, who was not injured, said he ran next door to his nephew’s home to get a fire extinguisher and then called 911. “It just happened so fast,” he said.
Williams said there was smoke damage throughout the house. Hensley was most concerned with the condition of the bedrooms of his three children, who were not home at the time of the fire. “I just want to see how bad it is,” he said.
A dog owned by Hensley also escaped without injury.
No damage estimates from the fire were immediately available, according to Williams.
