Police have taken a Salina man into custody in connection with a case of child abuse.
Captain Mike Sweeney said Michael Bryant, 27, was arrested after officers were called to Salina Regional Health Center, where hospital staff had been treating an infant for burns to the lower extremities.
The infant, who was taken to the hospital by friends of Bryant that he had previously contacted, was suffering from 2nd degree burns on its lower legs that apparently occurred while the child was allegedly in Bryant’s care at a south Salina home.
Sweeney said the child was transferred to the burn unit at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis in Wichita for further treatment.
Bryant was booked into the Saline County Jail on a single requested charge of child abuse, according to Sweeney.
