A Salina man was arrested Friday morning after allegedly stealing a vehicle.

Saline County Undersheriff Roger Soldan said 26-year-0ld Zachariah Sharp was initially spotted by a resident in the 4700 block of N. Wasserman Way, just northeast of Salina, driving a black 1976 Ford Ranger through yards, fences, and pastures in the area.

Sharp’s pickup became stuck in a ditch and he then got out. The resident approached him and Sharp got back in, got the pickup out of the ditch, and made his way to the 5000 block of W. Shipton Road.

Soldan said Sharp’s pickup apparently began to suffer from mechanical difficulty, which led him to allegedly take a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser owned by Terry Burger from 5024 W. Shipton Road. He then drove east on Shipton and spotted a deputy driving west. Sharp then attempted to make a u-turn and once again got stuck. He was taken into custody without incident moments later.

Sharp was booked into the Saline County Jail on requested charges of felony theft, damage to property, driving while suspended, reckless driving and driving a vehicle on private property.

He also had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Lane County, according to Soldan.
