A Tuesday afternoon fire in northwest Saline County destroyed several bales of hay and damaged the trailer hauling them.

Saline County Undersheriff Roger Soldan said James DeBold of Tescott was hauling several round bales of hay just after 3 p.m. on Lockard Road, just west of Brookville Road, when his daughter, who was driving behind him, noticed flames coming from within the bales.

DeBold pulled over and disconnected his truck from the trailer and notified Rural Fire District #3, who responded to the scene.

The bales were destroyed and the trailer was heavily damaged.

The exact cause of the fire has not been determined and damage estimates were not immediately available, according to Soldan.
