4009771_wlppMarian L. Ahlberg was born November 22, 1926 in Topeka, the daughter of Clarence and Lucille (McKenzie) Englund.
Marian was raised in the Wayne community. She graduated from CCCHS in 1944 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She married Warren Ahlberg on April 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2001. Marian was a longtime accountant in Clay Center and worked for Jones and Ryan, Hutchinson Manufacturing, and the Carlson Agency.
She was a member of the Clay Center United Methodist Church, Clay Center Country Club and AS-U-R. She is also preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Mary Elizabeth in 1960.

Grandchildren: Christi (Mike) Rice, Andy (Sherri) Ahlberg, Erik Ahlberg, and Mason Ahlberg

Elna “Faye” Breer, 70, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016. She was born June 2, 1946 in Smith Center, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Elsie (McDonald) West; and a sister, Marilyn Rief.

Survivors include her loving husband of 27 years, Michael Breer of the home; sister, Donna L. West; nieces, Anne Brown, Amee Rief, and Enita Larson; nephew, Edward Rief; great niece, Avelyn Larson; and great nephew, Ayden Larson, brothers-in-law: Ed (Eileen) Breer, Pat Breer and Tim (Debbie) Breer, sister-in-law; Mary Breer, nephews; Christopher Sooby, Dr. Andrew Breerand Aaron Breer, nieces; Naomi Breer, Casandra Spillane, and Becky Schwan, great nephew; Micah Spillane and great niece; Leah Spillane.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 22nd at 10 AM at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St, Salina. Inurnment will take place immediately after service at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, 3600 East Crawford St, Salina.

vet_ffffffGYPSUM — Jack L. Smith, 80, of Gypsum, passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016. He was born July 25, 1936, in Golden CO, the son of Albert and Adrian (Kegy) Smith. He was enlisted in the Air Force from 1954-1957 and served in the Korean War. Jack was also a member of the VFW Post #2715 in McPherson. Jack was a technician for Coors’ Brewing Company until his retirement July 25, 1991. He married Martha A. Sundquist in 1957 at Schilling Air Force Base in Salina. Jack was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Martha; brothers, David Smith (Barbara), of McPherson and Larry Smith, of Texas; sister, Pauline Bardbury (Eldon), of Phoenix, AZ; numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be from 2-5 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Gypsum Community Building, Gypsum, KS. Memorial contributions may be given to the McPherson VFW Post #2715 and left in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth St., Salina.

Memorial services for Eugene V. (Gene) Ecklund, age 79, of rural Herington will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday November 26, 2016 at the Wilsey Christian Church in Wilsey, Kansas. Pastor Clarence Sumner will be officiating . Gene passed away on Tuesday, November 1st at Council Grove, Kansas.
Gene was born November 12, 1936 in Burdick, Kansas the oldest son of Vernie & Anna (Lehmann) Ecklund. He attended the Prairie Star Grade School and graduated from Burdick High School. Gene married Jean Anderson on April 19, 1957 at the Christian Church in Hope, Kansas. His life was filled with faith, family, farming, ranching, hunting and fishing. Gene began working on the farm with his father Vernie at age 6 and continued farming for 73 years. He was a good steward of the land and was honored with numerous soil conservation awards. Gene was a member of the Wilsey Christian Church and served on the Farmers Home Administration Board, Chairman of the Morris County Soil Conservation & Diamond Creek Watershed boards and also a member of the Herington Riding Club and also served as President.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Vernie and Anna, his brother Leon Ecklund and grandson Matthew Spriggs.
He is survived by his loving wife Jean, daughters Pam Spriggs and husband Ed of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Debbie Kresky and husband Steve of McPherson, Kansas and Karen Biehler and husband Tim of rural Herington, Kansas, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and one brother, Merle Ecklund of Lost Springs, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews. Gene enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren and made very special memories with them. The family will carry him in their hearts always.
The family will have a private burial at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s honor to the Wilsey Christian Church and may be sent in care of the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW 3rd, Abilene, Kansas 67410.

Rose M. Eilert
(September 28, 1936 – November 18, 2016) 

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Tuesday, November 22 at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Beloit. Mrs. Eilert died Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit. Survivors include her sons, Leo & Sam, both of Beloit; daughter, Angela Hillman of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother Leroy Deaver of Clay Center; & sisters, Ruth Girard of Pratt & Mary Girard of Clyde. A parish rosary service will be at 6 PM Monday, November 17 at the Church, & visitation will be from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday at the McDonald Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to St. John’s Schools or Legion of Mary/Ladies Guild.

lois-l-perkins-jpegLois L. Perkins, 102, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 10:38 a.m., Friday, November 18th, while in the company of family members, at her daughters home, McPherson, Kansas.

Lois was born in McPherson, Kansas on July 30, 1914, a daughter of Barbara Lucretia (Burns) and Hardy Wallace Fortner.

Lois attended Fairview Country School near Conway, Kansas, school in Bartow, Florida and graduated from Fort Smith, Arkansas High School, Fort Smith Arkansas.

She was a member of Free Methodist Church McPherson, KS.

Lois was a Homemaker

Lois enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing, did a lot of needle work, doing volunteer work at Central College and spending time with her family.

Lois L. Fortner was united in marriage to Vernon Francis Perkins, Sr. on November 10, 1933 at Van Buren, Arkansas. He died on February 13, 1973.

She is survived by her children, Earline Magathan and her husband Jim, of Marion, Kansas, Nadine Bonham, of McPherson, Kansas, Barbara Huff, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mary Kluss, of Nickerson, Kansas, and Erma Perkins, of McPherson, Kansas; her 22 grandchildren; her 54 great-grandchildren; her 12 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon, Sr.; sons, Gerald, Stanley, Vernon Jr., and Chester Perkins; infant sister, Betty Jean Perkins; brothers, Robert and Gordon Fortner, and half brother, Kenneth Whitney.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, November 21, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at Glidden – Ediger Chapel, McPherson.

The funeral service will be held at the Free Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 22nd, 2016 with Pastor Tom Griffith officiating.

The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, KS.

Memorial contributions may be given to Free Methodist Church or Hospice of Reno County-McPherson and they can be sent in care of the Glidden – Ediger Funeral Home; 222 West Euclid Street; McPherson, Kansas 67460.
