Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said if you don’t need to travel to stay off the roads this weekend.
In anticipation of the upcoming ice storm this weekend, the Salina Police Department may be implementing the “Emergency Accident Reporting Plan” (EARP). We will have the plan in effect if the number of accidents exceeds our ability to respond in a timely manner.
If the accident is not a hit-and-run, there are no personal injuries, no alcohol or drugs involved and no towing required, you will be referred to the EARP program.
You will be advised to complete an EARP form, which can be obtained online at https://www.salina-ks.gov/Police-Department or at the Salina Police Department. You will need to exchange information with the other driver that includes, name, address, phone number, vehicle information and insurance company. If you have witnesses, please attempt to obtain their names and contact information too.
The completed form must be mailed or delivered to the Salina Police Department within 48 hours of the accident.
We also encourage you to only travel when absolutely necessary and use extreme caution.

The Kansas Division of Emergency Management activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka at 7 a.m. Friday to monitor the severe winter storm that is expected to cover many areas of the state with as much as one inch of ice over the weekend.
Kansans are urged to stay home, if possible, and be prepared by making sure their home emergency kits are stocked and review their home emergency plan. Power outages and travel impacts are the biggest concerns. Since travel may be impossible, citizens need to make sure their home emergency kits are stocked for a 3-day supply. Before and during the storm, keep aware of weather conditions by listening to local TV and radio stations, NOAA weather radio and social media alerts.
