Temperatures are soaring again in Salina on Wednesday.
Shortly before 4pm the temperature at the Salina Municpal Airport had reached 113 degrees, with a heat index near 114.
We may be in luck this evening though. According to the National Weather Service, there is still a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7pm.
A slight cool down from the dangerous heat is anticipated Thursday through Saturday across the region, as a weak cold front stalls across Mid-America, although readings will still be above normal.
Widely scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be possible Thursday through Saturday in response to this stalled frontal boundary.
Dangerous summer heat will likely return by Sunday and persist into at least early next week.
