DERBY, Kan. (AP) – Two high school resource officers in Kansas have been cleared of wrongdoing in their confrontation with a student over saggy pants.
The 17-year-old student at Derby High School spoke publicly after the April incident, saying the officers tried to shock him with a stun gun, gave him a black eye and hurt his arm. The teen said he refused an order to pull up his pants because the school day was over.
An investigation by the Derby Police Department says the student used a racial slur toward other students nearby and tried to obstruct the resource officers from doing their jobs.
KWCH-TV reports the investigation also concluded the student’s injuries were unintended and resulted from his decision to resist.
