SALINA, KAN.— Auditions for the Salina Youth Symphony Program will be held Saturday, Aug. 27, in the Choral Room (2nd floor) of Pioneer Hall on the campus of Kansas Wesleyan University. Students from elementary through high school are invited to audition. Students should come prepared to play a solo and scales, and will be asked to sight read.
The audition schedule is as follows: 8:00-8:30 a.m. – percussion (all ages); 8:30-10:30 a.m. – violins and violas (through 8th grade); 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. – violins and violas (9th-12th grade); 1:00-2:00 p.m. – cellos and basses (all ages); and 2:00-3:00 p.m. – winds/brass (all ages).
The Salina Youth Symphony Program offers area youth the opportunity to participate in professionally directed youth orchestras with peers from more than 30 different schools. The Youth Symphony features a full orchestra of advanced musicians under the under the direction of Ken Hakoda. The Junior Youth Symphony is a full intermediate orchestra performing under the baton of Henry Littich. The Preparatory Orchestra, a beginning string program, is conducted by Lindsay Modin. Youth Symphony Program members will perform Nov. 13 and April 15 at the Stiefel Theatre.
