Salina City Commission Makes Quick Work of Monday’s Agenda

The Salina City Commission took just over 20 minutes to go through the agenda for Monday’s meeting. The commission approved an agreement between the city and Great Plains Manufacturing to allow Great Plains to use public right-of-way to install a fiber optic cable between it’s main location to a satellite building a few blocks to the west at 1030 E. North.

The Commission on second reading approved ordinances that allows for the city to level special assesments against properties that are considered nuisances. Also okayed on second reading was an ordiance that amended the final development plan for a portion of River Run to be changed from townhome to single family home development.

Commissioners also approved a contract with Lancaster Construction for a repair project of the parking lot at the Salina/Saline County Health Department.

The commission also directed staff to finalize a 2009 Community Development Block Grant Housing Rehabilitation grant used to help with the weatherization of several homes in Salina.

During the Commission study session, Commissioners heard from staff concerning the 2012 city budget which will have it’s first public hearing next Monday during the regular commission meeting. The budget for 2012 could include a decrease in funding for the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce for economic development work.
