Martin Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

MANHATTAN, Kansas Kansas State senior forward Shaelyn Martin has been selected to the 2018 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Women’s Basketball Academic All-America Second Team in an announcement by the organization on Monday. Martin was the only student-athlete from the Big 12 Conference to earn the honor this season.

Martin, a product of Salina, Kansas, is the sixth player in program history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. She is the first since Ashley Sweat in 2010 to earn the honor.

A kinesiology major, Martin is a two-time CoSIDA All-District VII First Team selection, a 2018 Big 12/Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement Award recipient and a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team recipient with a 4.0 GPA.

On the court, Martin is the third player in program history with 500 or more career points, 750 or more rebounds and 400 or more career assists. She ranks fifth in program history for career assists with 407, ranks 11th for career rebounds as with 752, ninth for career steals with 207 and seventh for career starts with 120.

This season, Martin is averaging a career-high 5.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 29 games. She has scored in double figures in four games this season and has a pair of games with 15 rebounds. With her 103 assists this season, she is the fourth player in program history with three or more seasons with 100 or more assists.
