Kansas mother, son jailed after deputies seize 189 animals

Sheriff Deputies responded to concerns about neglected animals and it resulted in two arrests.

According to Sheriff Roger Soldan, deputies were called on April 18 to the intersection of  Lapsley and Woodward Rd in response to a report that cattle in a pasture had been poorly taken care of and several were dead.

During the investigation, the Sheriff’s department got a search warrant to seize the cattle on the pasture at the SE corner of Lapsley and Woodward Rd., a residence, and the property surrounding it at the 5000 block of East Country Club Road.

A total of 189 animals were seized. The animals were cattle, horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, and goats. The Salina Animal Shelter, Saline County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol and Rescue Squad, and community partners made arrangements to assist in the gathering and transport of the animals.

Beverly Fullen, 66, of Salina and Matthew Fullen, 40, of Salina are facing charges of 165 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, and four counts of felony cruelty to animals.
