Driving dispute leads to arrests

According to Captain Paul Forrester, police officers responded to a disturbance call on May 6 at 12:10 a.m. at the 800 block of Hancock.

Joseph Rykel, 37, of Salina was leaving his residence around 11 p.m. and squealed his tires on his 2001 GMC Sierra. This upset his neighbor Brian Catania, 44 of Salina. When Rykel returned home around 12 a.m., Catania confronted Rykel about his driving and they exchanged words. The argument became heated and  Rykel allegedly grabbed a small baseball bat from his truck and struck Catania on the head and his body.

After Rykel went into his home, Catania broke a mirror and the window on the back of Rykel’s truck.

Catania did seek medical attention on his own and received three staples on his head to close the wound.

Joseph Rykel is facing a charge of aggravated battery, and Brian Catania is facing a charge of damage to property.
