Chapman FFA Earns Triple Crown Award for Seventh Straight Year
MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Chapman FFA chapter received the prestigious Triple Crown award for the seventh year in a row at the final session of the 90th Kansas FFA Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
Under guidance from advisors Johanna Ryckert and Alex Jost, the Chapman FFA chapter earned the highest combined score over three separate divisions: Building Communities, Growing Leaders and Strengthening Agriculture. The chapter will receive $300 and the Garlow Memorial Trophy, which is sponsored by the Bill Garlow Family in memory of past Kansas FFA officer Bob Garlow.
Runners-up for the Triple Crown award were as follows: Ellsworth FFA in second place; Udall FFA in third place; Holton FFA in fourth place; and Mission Valley FFA in fifth place.
The Triple Crown award is given to the FFA chapter that performs the best in the National Chapter Award program, which recognizes chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization in the three divisions. Awards are given in each of these three areas in the divisions of bronze, silver and gold. Chapters in the gold division qualify as finalists for the Triple Crown.
Ellsworth FFA Wins State Chapter Initiative Program
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Ellsworth FFA team members were recognized for placing first in the state Chapter Initiative Program at the third session of the 90th Kansas FFA State Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
This is the inaugural competition for the Chapter Initiative Program. The Chapter Initiative Program focuses on the three-circle model of agricultural education: FFA, Supervised Agricultural Experience and classroom education. Chapters completed challenges that pushed them to highlight each circle, including writing news articles, giving SAE presentations, and participating in service projects.
“We enjoyed leading the chapters in this new initiative program, with a focus on the three circles that make up ag education,” said Skyler Denio, State Sentinel. “As an added bonus, winning chapters earned grants to help with improvements to the program.”
The Ellsworth FFA chapter was awarded first place in the Chapter Initiative Program. Blue Valley placed second, and Marysville FFA received third. The grants awarded to these chapters were made possible by the program sponsor, Kansas Corn.
Local FFA Members Receive Orscheln Farm and Home Scholarships
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Orscheln Farm & Home Stores of Kansas awarded eight scholarships to FFA members from across the state during the third session of the 90th Kansas FFA State Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
The Orscheln Farm & Home Stores scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors of Kansas high schools who plan to attend a four-year program or a two-year program with the intention of transferring to a university or college majoring in agriculture in the state of Kansas.
Students who are awarded the scholarship are four-year members of the Kansas FFA Association and have a keen interest in the family farm and its importance to society. Scholarship recipients demonstrate outstanding leadership, community service, exhibit good character and moral traits, and have excelled scholastically during high school.
This year’s recipients are: Brittany Ebersole, Abilene; Lukas Sebesta, Ellsworth; Ivy Gatton and Tara Houcke, Labette County; Natalie Papa, McLouth; Tatum Brunkow, Rock Creek; Blake Chance, Royal Valley; and Scuyler Zenger, Washington County.
Local FFA Members Earn Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough Scholarships
MANHATTAN, Kan. — Local FFA members were among the 60 Kansas students awarded $1,000 Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough Scholarships during the third session of the 90th Kansas FFA State Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
The Built Ford Tough FFA Scholarship Program recognizes FFA members’ talents and accomplishments while encouraging their future academic achievements.
“We’re proud to recognize these student leaders for their commitment to FFA and the leadership they display in their chapters and their communities,” said Marie Reveles, Kansas FFA State Secretary. “We appreciate this financial support from Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough which will further these students’ educational goals.”

Local Members Receive National FFA Foundation Scholarships
MANHATTAN, Kan. — The National FFA Foundation awarded scholarships to members across the state of Kansas. FFA members were recognized for scholarship awards at the 90th Kansas FFA State Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
The National Foundation offers approximately $2.7 million, generously donated by numerous sponsors, to FFA members across the nation every year. The awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 to assist with their education at a two-year or four-year institution.

Tonganoxie FFA Chapter Wins State Ag Issues Forum
MANHATTAN, Kan. — The Tonganoxie FFA chapter was recognized for earning first place in the Ag Issues Forum Leadership Development Event (LDE) during the 90th Kansas FFA State Convention, May 30–June 1, 2018, on the Kansas State University campus.
In the Ag Issues Forum LDE, FFA members must create a written portfolio and prepare a verbal presentation addressing issues facing agriculture.
Tonganoxie FFA won first place in the state event with their topic of the dangers of developing resistance to antimicrobials. Team members on the first place team included: Alan Hinds, Rebekah Martin and Tanner Walden.
As a state winner, the first-place Tonganoxie team is eligible to represent the Kansas FFA Association in the National Ag Issues Forum LDE at the fall 2018 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Skyline FFA received second place in the Ag Issues Forum, and Ellsworth FFA got third place.
