A fascination with narrative, story, and the fictions we construct
Salina Biennial Artist, Anthony Hawley will headline Salina Art Center activities in June. Hawley will discuss work in his upcoming Smoky Hill River Festival contribution, Fault Diagnosis, as well as his June exhibition at Salina Art Center during Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, June 6 from 12-1pm at SAC Warehouse, 149 S. 4th St. Guests can bring a sack lunch, beverages provided. Lunch & Learn is free and open to the public.
Join Hawley again in the Warehouse from 6-8pm on Wednesday, June 6 for Imaginary Manuals. This workshop is born from the many small failures experienced everyday and what those moments trigger in the imagination. What happens when the things we think we know so well breakdown and fail us? What do we do when language stops working; how do we act, react, innovate, and playfully re-envision the world around us? In “Imaginary Manuals” attendees spend time developing manuals for things that don’t yet exist, new ways of instructing, and much more. This workshop is free and open to the public.
Anthony Hawley is an interdisciplinary artist and writer. In general, his hybrid practice is driven by a fascination with narrative, story, and the fictions we construct.
Recipient of many fellowships and awards he has exhibited throughout the United States and abroad. Hawley writes regularly on art and film and his poems and essays have been published widely in The Paris Review, The New Republic, Denver Quarterly, Verse, The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, and many more.
The exhibition of Fault Diagnosis and Birdless by Anthony Hawley opens June 20 at Salina Art Center, 242 S. Santa Fe. For more information, visit www.SalinaArtCenter.org. The Salina Art Center’s exhibitions and programs are funded by members, donors and the Salina Arts & Humanities grants program.
