Kansas Hearing On Abortion Exams Resumes Nov. 4th

A disciplinary hearing resumes Nov. 4 for a Kansas doctor over mental health exams that allowed young patients to receive late-term abortions.

Dr. Ann Kristin Neuhaus  faces a complaint before the State Board of Healing Arts accusing her of negligence in conducting exams, an allegation she disputes.

A hearing officer took five days of testimony earlier this month and will recommend whether Neuhaus should face sanctions.

The complaint involves 11 patients, ages 10 to 18, who received late-term abortions in 2003 at Dr. George Tiller’s clinic in Wichita.

Kansas law required Tiller to get a second opinion before performing the abortions. Such procedures were limited to cases in which patients could have died or suffered permanent and substantial harm to their physical or mental health if the pregnancies continued.
