Saline County Back to School Fair set

It’s almost time for the annual Saline County Back to School Fair!

This is the 17th year for the fair, which is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. August 3, 2018, at Lakewood Middle School, and is open to the public at no charge.

The fair provides free basic school supplies for qualified students. According to the flier for the fair, students must qualify for free or reduced-price school lunches in order to receive the free supplies. The fair also includes K-12 dental screenings and cavity prevention, K-12 school/sports physicals, and free activities, games, and refreshments.

Brenda Gutierrez, a member of the 12-member steering committee for the fair, said that 25 collaborative partners made up of a variety of community organizations, as well as numerous volunteers come together each year to serve more than 1,000 people during the seven-hour event. The fair is open to K-12 students who either live in Saline County or attend school in Saline County, she said.

Gutierrez added that it was important to note that the supplies will only be given out from noon to 7 p.m. on August 3.

Following is the schedule for the fair.

Noon to 7 p.m. – Register and Pick-up Basic School Supplies
Noon to 6 p.m. – K-12 Dental Screening, Cavity Prevention provided by Salina Family Health Care Dental professionals
4 to 6 p.m. – K-12 school and sports physicals by Salina Family Health Care medical professionals
3 to 6 p.m. – activities, games, and refreshments
